Martina Fontana is a figurative artist whose research ranges in the field of matter, drawing inspiration from nature. She has always pursued her own pictorial and sculptural research, with natural and synthetic techniques and materials, while her artistic-scientific formation favours an approach based on experimentation. From 2016 to 2023 she was the referent for the Art Factory project of Dynamo Camp, for which she planned and realized workshops alongside the major artists of the international contemporary panorama. Her artistic research investigates the relationship between the body and the environment, a reflection on time passing, which is necessary to start and complete generative cycles.
From 8th March to 18th May 2024 Martina Fontana will hold her exhibition THE NATURE OF DEFENSE at Palazzo Besta in Teglio (SO). An exhibition project through which the artist has decided to represent Nature in the way it lends itself to protect human fragility. The goal is to closely observe the Nature, including those nuances that, at first glance, seem flaws. It is only by understanding its irregularities and imperfections, in fact, that we really feel its strength, which is exactly what we should do with ourselves: understand the value and beauty of the scars we wear. This is how Nature protects us, this is the true Nature of defence.

A concept with which we at Casa Vinicola Triacca immediately felt a strong affinity. Accustomed to always taking care of Nature honouring its phases, stages and changes, it is only thanks to the great respect and the awareness that, after all, it has always been her to take care of us, that we can achieve our results of excellence. That’s why we decided to seize such an opportunity and, through Ms Giuseppina di Gangi, director of the Museum of Palazzo Besta in Teglio, began this collaboration with the artist Martina Fontana.

The exhibition will open on Friday, March 8th at 15:00. It will be a visit narrated by Martina Fontana and the curators, a journey through the works guided by the artist herself, which will then have the opportunity to talk about her art and herself.
What better opportunity to inaugurate an exhibition whose theme is Nature, which transforms to protect itself and which transforms us to protect us, if not the International Women’s Day. The perfect day for the start of a project born thanks to the awareness of Giuseppina di Gangi, director of the Museum of Palazzo Besta and curator of the exhibition together with Giovanna Brambilla, art historian. The curators have in fact favoured the meeting and collaboration of an exceptional women team, who joined to implement this innovative program. The artworks show how, not only in a figurative sense, we often feel the need to defend ourselves and, above all, how Nature demonstrates that to defend ourselves it takes strength. With her work, the artist wants us to discover that it is precisely by giving value to the scars we wear that we can become strong like Nature.

The exhibition is paired with a program of activities, meetings and workshops carried out with the collaboration of cultural associations and local businesses, among which we at Casa Vinicola Triacca decided to be present by participating to the project FortificAzioni from 25th to 27th April 2024.
FortificAzioni will be a journey through the exhibition THE NATURE OF DEFENSE with the artist herself, followed by a workshop to discover together the value and beauty of the scars we wear. Through contact with Nature, playing with matter, we will give shape to those signs that time has transformed into strengths.
On 25th, 26th and 27th April, therefore, you will not only have the opportunity to get to know Martina Fontana and her works, but also to visit the unique location of La Gatta, an ancient monastery in the heart of the terraces of Valtellina, and her sixteenth-century cellar. What better way to understand the meaning of protecting and being protected by Nature than by directly touching the strength of the ancient Nebbiolo vines and dry-stone walls that climb on our steep slopes. A strength that you can also enjoy during a tasting lunch with Triacca wines accompanied by a typical menu that respects the traditional flavours of our land.
